Some plants want to spread seeds far and wide, and so need to be fast growing but easily trampled.
Some plants want to dominate the top of the forest, and so need to be sturdy but inflexible.
Some plants want to be able to survive on low light and water, and so need to have extensive root networks but never be seen.
None of these “but”s are downsides.
They are merely what necessarily comes from achieving their goal.
They are a sign of success, not failure
