You’re most common lie you don’t know you’re telling yourself

“I don’t have time”

When was the last time you said this? It’s become the most common response to fending off plans along with “I can’t”.

Both of these are objectively false. You have 24 hours in a day, no more, no less, so you always have the same amount of time. And if someone pointed a gun at you and said “go or I shoot you”, you would probably go, so you CAN in fact.

Then why lie? Because it hurts to say “I don’t prioritize that”, which is the true statement.

Another true statement that might be easier is “I don’t want to do this, but what else could we do together?”. People don’t care if you say no to the activity if they feel you don’t say no to them.

And if that doesn’t feel true to say either, then you have a tough decision to make. Will you keep lying to yourself?
