Stop choosing favorite colors

08-07-2024

When we are children, we don’t yet know who we are.

So we define ourselves by the things around us.

“Blue is my favorite color”

“My favorite dish is lasagna”

“She is my favorite teacher”

This is no longer useful when we get older.

When we define favorites, it is harder to be content unless we get our “favorite”.

Drop the favorite and focus on why specifically you like something.

“The roundness and slight spice in this lasagna makes me truly delighted” is a better compliment than “Yum, my favorite!” anyways.

Whenever someone asks for my favorite [blank], I now give 2 answers; the expected answer (lasagna) and my real answer (I choose to not have favorites).
